US Mens Soccer Team Loses To Honduras 2-1

Tim Howard US Mens Soccer Goalie

US Mens Soccer Team loses to Honduras 2-1 in a World Cup qualifying match Feb. 6th.

Clint Dempsey’s goal was not enough to carry the red, white, and blue of the US squad. This

Dempsey goal give him 31 total World Cup match play goals jumping above Brian McBride who

had 30 in his great career. Both offense and defense for the US squad looked a bit flat in Honduras.

The bicycle kick goal 4 minutes after the US scored really took the wind out of defense, as Honduras

seemed to play with more energy than the Yankees from the North. Next match, Costa Rica March

22nd at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.  See the highlights below.

What Are The Most Successful Corner Kicks ?

Corner Kick Spacing

What Are The Most Successful Corner Kicks ? Over 30 years of experience here at The Soccer Info

staff, it’s the ball chipped in between the penalty spot and the 6 yard goal kick line that creates the

most goals. Please stop playing the ball on a short pass to another teammate near the corner! That

play rarely ever gets any results and that strategy ends up playing into the defense’s hand. The best

play is to get a well paced chip pass just in front of the goal. Making the goalie to decide to come off

his line or to let his defenders clear the challenge. After watching 100′s of head ball goals, most come

from about 8 to 12 yards from the goal mouth, and is headed by an offensive player on the move.

Having players on the offense start 16 to 18 yards away, then run towards the flight of the in-swing chip,

this momentum gets the best results on strong head ball goals. Plus if the ball is chipped to deep past

the goal, always try to head the ball back to the middle again, that will give more  shot at goal.

One of the biggest challenges is having too many offensive players in the same area, spread out!

Covering all potential areas the ball could bounce to, gives your team coverage in keeping the ball in

his dangerous offensive chance to score. Please don’t play the ball short, give it chance to score,

lob it in! It’s your highest chance to score, put the ball into danger, use your advantage.
