Penalty kicks great goalie saves MLS Cup 2013 was one to remember. Even low temp of 17 degrees

and ice on the field, could not keep the red hot Sporting KC from claiming their first MLS Cup title

as SKC and second MLS Cup for the team history, since beating Chicago Fire in the year 2000 under

goalie Tony Meola and defensive star Peter Vermes, now the head coach  of The Wiz(Sporting KC).

With balls bouncing off posts more than 7 times this match, it was only inches that separated a great

Real Salt Lake and this 2013 Sporting KC club. RSL opens the scoring in the 53rd minute with a great

no look chip pass from Kyle Beckerman to a nice chest trap just in front of a beautiful 27 yard shot from

Alvaro Saborio who buries it in the back of the net, putting red up 1-0. Sporting KC would knock at the

door all game until a head ball off Sporting KC’s star defender Aurelien Collin on a corner kick tied it up

1-1 in the 76th minute. Both teams fought all 90 minutes and extra time, but penalty kicks had to

decide it. It had to go 10 rounds of penalty shots for again Aurelien Collin to bury his PK and super

goalie Jimmy Nielson to stop multiple shots in winning 2013 MLS Cup. Penalty kicks great goalie saves

Georgetown and Indiana win to move on to the College Cup Finals 2012 after two exciting matches.

Maryland got all they could handle with a red hot Hoya squad, and Creighton could not get through

the Indiana defense. Georgetown’s coach Brian Wiese thought Tomas Gomez came up big when the

Hoyas needed it most. Hoya Steve Neumann, put in a hat trick for Georgetown to bring them to victory.

Maryland come back from a 3-1 deficit to tie at 4 goals each, penalty kicks were the only way to get

a winner. That’s when Jimmy Nealis made the final shot for Georgetown putting them up 4-3 in pks.

Gomez the Hoya goalkeeper, saved two shots of 5 to bring Georgetown to the Final match Sunday.

Indiana kept Creighton’s high powered offense with a 1-0 shut out and a trip to the College Cup

Championship round. Hoosier Goalkeeper Luis Soffner and the Indiana defense had an awesome match.

Coach Todd Yeagley was so glad to see freshman Femi Hollinger-Janzen step up and tuck away the game winning goal.

Pele In Victory And The New York Cosmos Champions

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pele was the star of the NASL in the 1970’s and brought a huge focus to the game in the US.

He help bring big name players from other countries to help the birth of this new soccer league.

After he retired, in 1981 he was in the movie Victory with Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone.

Neat soccer movie to watch with World War II mixed into the plot. If you were a good young

player in the US, the nick name some kids would get in the 1970,80’s,90’s would be PELE.

The New York Cosmos did good by bring Pele to America. The Cosmos won championships

in 1972, 1977, 1978, 1980, and 1982. One of the most interesting rules was the way the penalty

kicks were taken at the end of a championship games to seal the winner. Watch these penalty kicks!

1980 Championship, New York Cosmos vs. The Washington Diplomats, Vladislav Bosicevic

wins it, beating Washington Goalie Irwin with a sneaky shot to the near post side. Birkenmeier

saved the last shot to seal the 1980 NASL Championship for the Cosmos.

Taking penalty kicks and putting them in the back of the net is a real art form.

Number one rule in taking penalty kicks, keep the ball on frame, on goal always.

You can not score if the ball is over, off to the side or hits the post, on goal ALWAYS!

Many like the on the ground with speed to the corner. Act like you are passing the ball

with accuracy to another player at the back of the net is some coaches advise. Work on

this every practice, after practice and have fun doing mini-tournaments to see who’s best.

Take a big breath before you approach the ball, get the heart rate down, then do what you practice.

The New York Red Bulls trying to stay on top of the Eastern Division of the MLS, taking one from

Montreal’s Impact. With two penalty kicks on questionable calls ties it by halftime, the Red Bulls

even go down to 10 players when Paulson gets his second yellow card. The game winner came from

D Richards on a great shot from 15 yards out. With only 10 players and a 5 game winning streak, the

Chicago Fire Gets A Gift, Takes 3 Points From FC Dallas

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Chicago Fire gets a 2-1 victory against FC Dallas, with many chances on both sides, Fire gets a

gift. FC Dallas heads in the first goal, then S Grazzini of the Fire hits a 23 yard upper window equalizer.

Then Fire Goalie Sean Johnson comes up big with a save on a penalty kick from FC Dallas. The call

of the night, was when the Fire was awarded a penalty kick.  After Grazzini gets saved by

FC Dallas Hartman, Marco Pappa followed up and knocks in the winning goal. After watching it, Pappa

was in the box too soon and the referee crew missed the call. The Brimstone Cup goes to the Fire
