Liverpool announced as champion of Europe for the 6th time with their mind-blowing win over Tottenham Hotspurs during the final match of the Champions League played at Madrid by this Saturday night.
Divock Origi and Mohamed Sarah scored two goals; out of which one was scored during the beginning of the match and the second before the extra time. It was one more remarkable victory of Liverpool in the most coveted tournament of Europe.
Note that Tottenham Hotspurs managed to reach the final match of this Champions League for the first time. At just the 28th second of the memorable match between both teams, disaster struck when Liverpool’s Moussa Sissoko was obstructed by midfielder of the other team and referee called it a penalty. This turned out to be an edge for the Liverpool and Salah easily scored the first goal against Hugo Lorris. The most amazing thing to know about this goal is that it is recorded as the second fastest goal of the history of Champion’s League.
To update your knowledge base, the fastest goal in the series was also scored in a match that was won by Liverpool; however, it was scored by the team playing opposite to them. It happened in the year 2005 when A.C. Milan scored that fastest goal during the first few minutes if the match. But that match ended with the equal score of 3-3, and finally, Liverpool registered a victory in the penalty round.
This year’s victory appears like a redemption of previous finals where Mohamed Salah and Jurgen Klopp played really well. Klopp successfully broke the mark of a six-time losing streak during major finals whereas Salah revived the performance of his first Champion’s League final. You might be aware of the fact that during that match, he had to leave the field just within 30 minutes of the game due to a major injury and watched only streams of the match from a hospital bed.
While talking to the reporters right after the remarkable victory, Klopp expressed his excitement and confidence saying that their team is ready to challenge every trophy in future and they are fully prepared for that. He also added that they would also challenge the Manchester City for the title in the upcoming season.
Its sixth victory of Liverpool in Europe. Their first four wins were recorded during UEFA Europa Cup; one was recorded in 1977 at Rome when they played against Borussia Monchengladbach; second was at London against Club Brugge, in 1978, and the third one of these was against Real Madrid at Paris in 1981, and the fourth one was against Roma in 1984, at Rome. After these, this famous tournament was renamed as Champions League in the year 1993, and they won two matches where one was played at Istanbul in 2005, against A.C. Milan and now they set another record while playing against Spurs at Madrid. Who will win 2020?
