Portland Timbers 2015 MLS Cup Winners

Timbers VS The Crew MLS Cup  Portland Timbers 2015 MLS Cup Winners,

after beating the Columbus Crew 2-1

in an exciting end to end battle for the cup.

The Timbers almost didn’t make the playoffs

this year, but an end of year push put their

15-11-8 record into the top 6 of the West

and into a head on collision course with the Columbus Crew who also finished 15-11-8. Only difference,

goal differential, Crew had a plus 5 and the Timbers only had a plus 2. The Crew have second highest

MLS goal scorer in Kei Kamara, but the Timbers have Diego Valeri, who put in the fastest MLS cup

goal at only 27 seconds into the match. Stage set, Timber dominate the first 15 minutes. At the 6:30

minute mark Lucas Melano picks out Rodney Wallace for a diving header to put Timbers up 2-0 with

less than 7 minutes gone by. Crew shell shocked, gather themselves by the 17th minute, when

pressure on the Timbers Goalie Adam Kwarasey puts the defense into a bad spot and the top

goal scorer for the Crew steps up and pulls one back with a turn around goal putting the match

at 2-1 now. From 18th minute till the 95th minute it was back and forth defensive battle with

Nat Borchers, Adam Ridgewell, Alvas Powell, and Jorge Villafana holding the Crew scoreless

in front of Kwarasey. Coach Caleb Porter had them all playing at top notch championship level

for the last 11 matches, hats off to da coach.

The Timbers pressed all game, 60th minute, corner kick to Wallace, almost goal, 70th minute,

Adi header, almost goal, 80th minute Borchers header, almost goal within inches. The 3D midfielders

Darlington, and the two Diego’s (Chara and Valeri) for the Timbers moved the ball from box to box

setting up the consent pressure on the Crew. What a great year for Will Johnson, Jack Jewsbury,

Fanendo Adi, Max Urruti, and the whole Timbers players and staff for a huge first time MLS Cup win.

The Crew had a great year knocking off the Supporter Sheild winners NY Red Bulls to advance to the

final, so heads high great footballers Ethan Finlay, Federico Higuain, Jack McInerney, Will Trapp,

Tony Tchani, Justin Meram and the whole Crew team, next year can be your year.

OMC Oh My Carli, TEAM USA World Cup Champs

Super Carli Lloyd US World Champion  OMC Oh My Carli, TEAM USA World Cup Champs!!!

Carli Lloyd has put herself and team USA into the record books.

Amazing performance from ALL US women’s team members and coaching

staff to pull this one off. With all the pressure of knowing we as good as we are, and playing in our back

yard of Canada for most of the US to attend if they wished, this couldn’t have gone any sweeter.

Wambach’s last match played for the US and probably Christie Rampone’s last match however both

women seem to be able to play into their sixties if they wish. What a send off for the veterans of the

squad and a huge step up for any women wanting to join this amazing bunch of athletes. This defense

is one of the strongest in any World stage competition, men or women, only one goal given up by this

whole team going into the final. Not just how good Hope Solo (goal keeper) played, but the front four of

the defense and the subs that came in. Look for underlined names with mp3 interview links during

World Cup 2015 from US players below, done by Men in Blazers. Awesome showing by Becky

Sauerbrunn, Julie Johnston, Meghan Klingenberg, Ali Krieger, Kelley O’Hara, Heather O’Reilly,

Lori Chalupny, and the midfield who dropped back so much to help. This team got better every match,

and rolled with the punches. Wonderful patterns of play produced by Christen Press, Tobin Heath,

Lauren Holiday, Morgan Brian, Amy Rodriguez and Shannon Boxx. Sydney Leroux saw sometime

but it was Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe who put the pressure on the opposing defenses and

opened up lanes for Carli Lloyd to work her magic. Rapinoe and Morgan really took alot of the

concentration of the opponents. Lloyd was on a mission!  And no one could stop this dynamo…

Setting world cup records with the only hat trick in the final match, the time it took to achieve it,

16 minutes total from one to third goal,  received both the Silver Boot and Golden Ball award for

this world cup tournament. Having 6 goals and assisting on three others, Lloyd was the force to put

the US into the history books. Three time world cup winners, the US has the toughest team in the World!!!

If you are a U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, or U15 player,  go out and see these women play, they

have a great league at http://www.nwslsoccer.com . Once again congratulations Coach Jill Ellis,

Hope Solo gets the Golden Glove Award,

and OMC Oh My Carli, TEAM USA World Cup Champs!

Carli Lloyd for President….

Shout out to Unbelievable Super Subs Teammates of the World Champ’s Whitney Engen, Ashlyn Harris, and Alyssa Naeher

YOU ALL WON THIS FOR US…..

Oh, BTW, FIFA, NO More Artificial Turf !!!!!

Super Carli Lloyd Saves The US To Take On Germany

usa women world cup 2015  Super Carli Lloyd saves the US to take on

Germany and make it to the final four with

Japan and England. After beating Colombia

2-0 in a tight match, the US team got a chance

at strong defensive Chinese squad to get out of

the elite 8 mix. Colombia pushed the US, but after Wambach could not keep a PK on frame, the mighty

Alex Morgan fresh off her injury rehab gave the US a little breathing room. Then Rapinoe made a great

run in the box only to be taken down inside the pk area and the ref had to award it. This time Coach

Ellis of the US gave the nod to Super Carli Lloyd whose consistent leadership for the last ten years plus

was awarded with chance to put the US by two. Calm, cool, collected she tucked the pk away putting

USA up two goals and only playing verses Colombia’s ten players the rest of the match. Rapinoe has

been the fire plug of this US squad, but these two match Lloyd was always there. Rapinoe and Holiday

got their second yellow cards so they will have to sit out the China match. More changes to the US

squad put a very scattered US attack on display for this tough China team, but the defense once again

held up for the US putting up their fourth clean sheet(shutout), Hope Solo and the back four Klingenberg,

Johnston, Sauerbrunn, Krieger, and O’Hara are all playing lights out giving the US a chance to pull

another one out. Now set the stage for Super Carli Lloyd, both teams had their chances the first half,

but a well crossed ball from Julie Johnston from the defense into the 15 yrd mark of the box, found

Carli poised to flick on the ball on net with a nifty header, sending the US fans into excitement and relief.

Now the US has a date with Number One ranked Germany to move on to the finals. This is it, Number

One vs Two !!!! Germany has controled most of their matches but France gave them a run for their

money, taking them to pk’s in the last match. Close game but Germany’s Goal Keeper Angerer was

too much for the French and the number three team was eliminated. So, here come The Under Dogs,

USA, get on your Red, White, N Blue, June 30th 7pm EDT, scream so they can hear you in Canada……

Number One vs Number Two

Come On Ladies…. Everything you got…. Super Carli Lloyd saves the US to take on Germany, now take’m out….

Best Soccer Drills For Defensive Goalie Success

la galaxy vs san jose earthquakes

Best soccer drills for defensive goalie success as we see more and more shut-outs in important

matches. Many coaches say the best offense is a great defense. Even if the offense is having an off

day, if your defense puts up a goose egg against the competition,  your offense should sneak in a goal

or two with PK’s and own goals. Good goalie play is probably the biggest element of successful

shut-outs / clean sheets. Just getting a hand on a good shot and putting it off to the side is one most

practiced skills that could save a shut-out. The defensive angles your back 5 take on pushing the

offense to the outer edges in the defensive third is so important to successful goalie victories.

As a goalie, when in doubt, punch or hit the ball out of play, as regrouping is always safer than making

sure you catch every ball. Watch these MLS gems of shut-outs, as you will see the results of best

soccer drills for defensive goalie success in action. Sometimes your best defender is the goal post.

Goalie And Defensive Teamwork For U10,U11,U12,U14,U16

Real Salt Lake vs FC Dallas 2013

Goalie and defensive teamwork for U10,U11,U12,U14,U16, these MLS matches are a great source of

watching teamwork from the goalie to the back four defensive players. Jimmy Nielsen the Sporting KC

goal keeper puts on an absolute clinic vs. the club from Toronto FC. This game shows why Nielsen is

the MLS leader of career goals against avg. , and why shut outs are not uncommon in Sporting KC

matches. Another great goal keeper to watch is Jeff Attinella of Real Salt Lake, quietly they have

put up some great shut outs and the best points total for the Western Division of the MLS so far in

2013. New York Red Bulls are clicking on all cylinders in the Eastern Division and the goal keeper

Luis Robles is the main reason why the defense is making a move in this hot July weather, putting

this team in the top 3 of battle for the east. The defensive four in front of these keepers are limiting

the quality of many shots, covering up the angles and clearing the ball from danger quickly. One keeper

who had a great game, but his defensive four in front of him let him down would be Toronto FC

Joe Bendik, who kept TFC in the Sporting KC match with many quality saves, but the lack of defensive

marking allowed too many easy chances through. Toronto in this match would be a bad example

for goalie and defensive teamwork for U10,U11,U12,U14,U16 players. [Read more…]

What Are The Most Successful Corner Kicks ?

Corner Kick Spacing

What Are The Most Successful Corner Kicks ? Over 30 years of experience here at The Soccer Info

staff, it’s the ball chipped in between the penalty spot and the 6 yard goal kick line that creates the

most goals. Please stop playing the ball on a short pass to another teammate near the corner! That

play rarely ever gets any results and that strategy ends up playing into the defense’s hand. The best

play is to get a well paced chip pass just in front of the goal. Making the goalie to decide to come off

his line or to let his defenders clear the challenge. After watching 100’s of head ball goals, most come

from about 8 to 12 yards from the goal mouth, and is headed by an offensive player on the move.

Having players on the offense start 16 to 18 yards away, then run towards the flight of the in-swing chip,

this momentum gets the best results on strong head ball goals. Plus if the ball is chipped to deep past

the goal, always try to head the ball back to the middle again, that will give more  shot at goal.

One of the biggest challenges is having too many offensive players in the same area, spread out!

Covering all potential areas the ball could bounce to, gives your team coverage in keeping the ball in

his dangerous offensive chance to score. Please don’t play the ball short, give it chance to score,

lob it in! It’s your highest chance to score, put the ball into danger, use your advantage. [Read more…]

DC United Making A Run On The 2012 MLS Playoff’s

DC United is on a great run for the playoffs in Oct 2012, they are only points away. After 4 out

of 5 in the win category, the men in black are playing great defense to get a playoff seeding. Against

The New England Revolution, DC got down 1-0 in the 29th minute, only to turn around 2 minutes

later to score on a crossing run that left the ball on a great long shot making it 1-1. In the second half

the defense stiffened and in the 63rd minute after a “Play On” call by the ref, DC got the winner to take

the 3 points away from the Revolution. In the latest match against Toronto FC, both teams had a clean

sheet going into the 87th minute, when Toronto’s Goal Keeper made a big error and gave an easy goal to Salahi.
