Teaching Players Head Ball Goals

Head ball goal NY Red Bulls

Teaching players head ball goals and how to keep the ball on frame. Many coaches know that

teaching players to head the ball downward helps in limiting balls going over the goal post.

This gives the ball a chance that the goalie might miss it and slip into the back of the net.

With the pace of the crossed ball, many times you really only need to redirect the ball not trying

increase the speed, just change the angle of the shot. Watching MLS matches, you will see pro

players trying just to redirect a cross with a flick of the head. The whole focus on any drill about

heading should result on forcing the ball lower towards the ground and a higher percentage of scoring.

Teaching players head ball goal techniques will put more goals per season on any club. [Read more…]

What Are The Most Successful Corner Kicks ?

Corner Kick Spacing

What Are The Most Successful Corner Kicks ? Over 30 years of experience here at The Soccer Info

staff, it’s the ball chipped in between the penalty spot and the 6 yard goal kick line that creates the

most goals. Please stop playing the ball on a short pass to another teammate near the corner! That

play rarely ever gets any results and that strategy ends up playing into the defense’s hand. The best

play is to get a well paced chip pass just in front of the goal. Making the goalie to decide to come off

his line or to let his defenders clear the challenge. After watching 100’s of head ball goals, most come

from about 8 to 12 yards from the goal mouth, and is headed by an offensive player on the move.

Having players on the offense start 16 to 18 yards away, then run towards the flight of the in-swing chip,

this momentum gets the best results on strong head ball goals. Plus if the ball is chipped to deep past

the goal, always try to head the ball back to the middle again, that will give moreĀ  shot at goal.

One of the biggest challenges is having too many offensive players in the same area, spread out!

Covering all potential areas the ball could bounce to, gives your team coverage in keeping the ball in

his dangerous offensive chance to score. Please don’t play the ball short, give it chance to score,

lob it in! It’s your highest chance to score, put the ball into danger, use your advantage. [Read more…]

Heading The Soccer Ball For Youth Soccer Players

Heading The Soccer Ball For Youth Soccer Players, Do’s And Don’t’s Discussion.
Some youth soccer leagues are now looking at banning heading the soccer ball in their organizations.

The concussion stat’s are growing in this field of study, and more programs have to look at it in the

youth players across the country. Many drills teach the right technique in attacking the ball with your

forehead, however my youth players can hit the ball with different parts of the head. Some products have

helped in reducing the impact of the ball on the forehead, but it doesn’t help much when some youth hit

the ball on the very top of their head. Do you think your youth organization might want to consider this
new rule also??? [Read more…]
