Youth Soccer Players Watch MLS Cup

Youth soccer players watch MLS Cup looking for hopes and dreams to be a pro player someday.

Both MLS players Gyasi Zardes of the LA Galaxy and Chris Tierney of the New England Rev’s, watched

as young players hoping to play in this big of a match someday, and that day was now Dec 7th. Both

teams ready after highly contested playoff matches with slight edge in goals scored to make 2014

MLS Cup one to remember. Robbie Keane becomes the Galaxy savior with an extra time strike that

put the StubHub center into a fevered pitch, then to hoist the cup for the fifth time after a 2-1 Galaxy win.

Robbie Rogers had a great shot under two minutes into the match but the Rev’s cleaned up an early

mistake to keep it 0-0 into the 52nd minute mark. Then Zardes took a great cross into the six yard

line box area and tucked away a beautiful shot to put the Galaxy up and Landon Donovan only 68

minutes away another Cup trophy. However the Rev’s were not out of it, many great chances and

alot of pressure on LA ‘s goalie Jaime Penedo, finally Chris Tierney broke the shut out with an amazing

touch to send the Rev fans into great relief tied at 1-1, 78th minute. Many more chances both sides for

the next 12 minutes, Lee Nguyen gets so bad leg cramps has to go off, Jermaine Jones probably

couldn’t play much better, and Patrick Mullins all had a great match for the Rev’s but it wasn’t enough

to stop Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane from completing their magical year of playing the come

back kids. Keane’s strike in the 111th minute showed why consider him the most dangerous big

game scorer in the MLS for the last 4 years. Rev’s played great, Bobby Shuttleworth the Rev’s keeper

played amazing, it just seemed like the LA Galaxy quest to send off Donovan with an amazing finish

to a great career was the energy needed by the TEAM to win it all. Good luck Landon Donovan in your

next adventure, your team gave you a proper send off, no than the US Men’s team did. For any youth

soccer players watching MLS Cup, watch Dovovan, he is a class act and good role model.

Will Landon Donovan go out with another title or the Rev’s winning their first ever MLS Cup after

five final appearances? It will be a great match at 3pm EST on Dec. the 7th at the StubHub Center,

too bad for NE Rev’s but that will be a home town crowd for the Galaxy. Tough track for both teams

though the playoffs after 2013 Champs Sporting KC and 2014 Supporters Shield winners Seattle

Sounders were eliminated, only 2 stand for this championship match. What a year for all of the teams

in the MLS, and many fantastic goals were scored. With great rookie year like Harry Shipp from the

Chicago Fire to the news Thierry Henry played his last game as a New York Red Bull. Many records

Drills For Soccer Skills Keeping The Ball On Target

Rev's vs Union MLS

Drills for soccer skills keeping the ball on target is one key elements soccer coaches look for from

time to time. Knowing that all positional field players will be called upon in some game to shoot on

goal, hoping to at least keep the ball on frame(goal). The key tips are:

1. Keep your knee over the ball as you strike the shot, this will help in shooting the ball over the goal

2. Don’t over power the ball, the idea is to hit it clean and straight, too much power means over the bar

3. Try not the lean back, keep your body straight or slightly over the ball will keep it down for the most part

4. The shot is many times just a hard pass if you can picture that in your mind as you are preparing for the shot

5. Angles are more important than power and speed of the ball, power comes later as you get better technique

6. A ball on goal(target) has a chance to score, it’s better to hit the ball slightly softer to insure a chance to score

Many drills have been shown for teaching goal scoring, here are some MLS results of drills for soccer

skills keeping the ball on target. [Read more…]

Teaching Players Head Ball Goals

Head ball goal NY Red Bulls

Teaching players head ball goals and how to keep the ball on frame. Many coaches know that

teaching players to head the ball downward helps in limiting balls going over the goal post.

This gives the ball a chance that the goalie might miss it and slip into the back of the net.

With the pace of the crossed ball, many times you really only need to redirect the ball not trying

increase the speed, just change the angle of the shot. Watching MLS matches, you will see pro

players trying just to redirect a cross with a flick of the head. The whole focus on any drill about

heading should result on forcing the ball lower towards the ground and a higher percentage of scoring.

Teaching players head ball goal techniques will put more goals per season on any club. [Read more…]

Teaching U11,U12,U13,U14,U15 How To Be A Patient Offensive Striker

Teaching U11,U12,U13,U14,U15 how to be a patient offensive striker, this is the old saying

from years of coaches, “take what the defense gives you!” Sometimes easier said than done,

but is so true if you just slow down a half of a second and pick your head up in the attacking third.

From Mike McGee of the Fire to Kenny Miller of the Whitecaps to Graham Zusi of Sporting KC,

watch how they slow down the ball, pick the head head up and make the play look easy. It takes time

to master, but the time is there, don’t hurry your shot, you’ve got more time than you think. Cutting

the ball back to your other foot puts the defenders on their heels for that split second. Practice your cut

backs everyday and you will master the art of getting that one more second you need to place your

strike. Watch how practicing and teaching U11,U12,U13,U14,U15 how to be a patient offensive striker in MLS action below. [Read more…]

DC United Making A Run On The 2012 MLS Playoff’s

DC United is on a great run for the playoffs in Oct 2012, they are only points away. After 4 out

of 5 in the win category, the men in black are playing great defense to get a playoff seeding. Against

The New England Revolution, DC got down 1-0 in the 29th minute, only to turn around 2 minutes

later to score on a crossing run that left the ball on a great long shot making it 1-1. In the second half

the defense stiffened and in the 63rd minute after a “Play On” call by the ref, DC got the winner to take

the 3 points away from the Revolution. In the latest match against Toronto FC, both teams had a clean

sheet going into the 87th minute, when Toronto’s Goal Keeper made a big error and gave an easy goal to Salahi.

Goal Fest At The Argentina vs Brazil Game

June 9th, 2012, was to be a friendly match between Brazil and Argentina. Lionel Messi did not act

like this was a “friendly match” knocking in a hat trick against Brazil. The game looked like the

defensive marking was lacking badly. Brazil had the lead in the 72nd minute, but just 3 minutes later

Federico Fernandez scored a nice head ball goal to tie the match at 3-3. Then Messi takes over,

in the 84th minute mark, a run from the touchline to the top of the box, 22 yards away, Messi

then unleashed a bullet, putting away Brazil for good. High scoring, goal action, fun offensive game.
